An electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) sensor, communications for line-of-sight and beyond-line-of-sight control, an inertial navigation system, a Global Positioning System, an attitude and heading reference system, retractable landing gear, an automatic take-off and landing system, and an autopilot are all standard features. Two 115 hp BRP-Rotax 914F four-stroke gasoline engines with propellers power the vehicle. External wing hardpoints can be used to fire lightweight torpedoes and launchers to intercept loitering munitions. The compartments in the SAR design may deploy emergency equipment, including a rescue boat.
Bristow Ireland Limited, a subsidiary of Bristow Group Inc, the leading global provider of advanced and sustainable vertical flight solutions, has entered into an agreement with the Irish Department of Transport to deliver rotary and fixed-wing aviation services for the Irish Coast Guard. Starting in the fourth quarter of 2024, Bristow will commence the transition to the new contract. Under this arrangement, the company will operate six specialized AW189 helicopters configured for Search and Rescue (SAR) missions from four dedicated bases located in Sligo, Shannon, Waterford, and Dublin Weston. These AW189 helicopters will feature the latest mission systems tailored to meet the specific needs of the Irish Coast Guard.
In addition to enhancing its current service offerings, Bristow will deploy two specialized King Air fixed-wing aircraft from Shannon Airport to support search and rescue operations and environmental monitoring. The fixed-wing component of the service will also integrate advanced aircraft mission management and communications systems in collaboration with the helicopter fleet. Furthermore, these fixed-wing aircraft will be available to provide 'Top Cover' support during long-range medical evacuations conducted by the helicopters.
